We had a very intereting today touring the USS Midway. The ship was first sent to sea in 1945 and ended the career in 1991.
We have never been on an aircraft carrier. Yes it is huge. He answered my question to how many planes are on deck when planes are flying off and on. He said they carry 70 planes, so that is including the planes that are flying around and those that have repair issues. The plane elevator can take two planes on them and it only takes 10 seconds to get the plane from flight deck to hanger deck. (or the opposite.)
Very informative. Enjoyed this very much.

The story behind this statue: There was a picture taken of this couple on V-J Day (1945). It was just announced the end of the war and he grabbed the first nurse and placed a kiss on her. This was taken in Time Square in New York. It took awhile to find out who these two people were. The women was found out years ago (late 1970's, but wasn't until 2008 before the man stepped forward that was in the picture.
This statue is on the Harbor next to USS Midway Aircraft Carrier.
